The Anacostia Playhouse seeks a part-time Marketing & PR Manager to support marketing and communications initiatives across the organization to promote the company’s work and mission and drive ticket sales.
The Marketing & PR Manager is a vital member of the Anacostia Playhouse team, reporting to the Executive Artistic Director. This role works closely with Anacostia Playhouse staff and leadership, affiliated artists, external vendors, arts nonprofits, press, agencies, and ticketing sites.
This is an hourly position, working 15-20 hours a week.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
General
- Works with the Executive Artistic Director to develop and implement marketing and public relations plans for all Anacostia Playhouse events and mainstage shows
- Work with the Website Manager and Social Media Specialist to ensure consistent messaging and branding across the website, email marketing, and social channels.
- Content planning and creation (i.e., copywriting, resizing graphics, and images)
- Assists the Executive Artistic Director with ad buys and media placements
- Secures marketing trades and email exchanges
Public Relations
- Serve as the Publicist for Anacostia Playhouse and liaise with traditional and non-traditional media, pitching feature stories, coordinating interviews and site visits, and securing press coverage across various media channels, including digital, print, television, radio, etc.
- Work closely with artists, including coordinating interviews and managing media notices
- Track and manage press coverage
- Schedule press to attend opening night and provide concierge service upon check-in
- Draft and disseminate press releases and other media materials for productions and programs
- Build and manage media lists, and develop relationships with key media professionals who cover arts and culture, as well as the broader public interest
Digital Marketing
- Write, build, and deploy email marketing blasts, segment audience email lists
- Support the company’s organic and paid digital marketing advertising efforts
- Maintain emarketing, community outreach, and audience lists and database content as needed
Experience
- 5+ years of marketing and public relations experience
- Knowledge of current marketing and public relations practices
- Familiarity with, and interest in, theatre and/or arts and culture is strongly preferred

- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, WordPress, and basic HTML
- Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
- Proficiency with Constant Contact or other email marketing platforms
- Knowledge of Photoshop a plus
- Experience working with a graphic designer, a plus
- Experience managing paid digital ads, a plus
Job Type: Part-time
Schedule: Self-determined schedule during core business hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) with the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
Experience:
- Marketing: 5+ years (Preferred)
- Public Relations: 3+ years (Preferred)
